Courses 2003

Ever wanted to dance Flamenco?
Here's your chance!

Flamenco is a lifestyle, where the music , the dance and the rhythm comes together to give the power which relieves you from pain, grief and loneliness (soleá) but also give great joy (alegría) and even space for some humour in life (buleria). May the force be with you!!!

The rhythm, or "el compás" like veteran flamencos says, is an elementary part of Flamenco. El compás holds the rhythm variations in dance steps, guitar, finger snaps "pitos" and handclaps "palmas" together.

Though Spain is the origin country of Flamenco, its not really a national heritage  but rather a provincial. The culture of Flamenco is strongly connected to Andalucia in the south of Spain - a landscape with a history of poverty, where people from different parts of the world has migrated. Because of the immigration Andalucia was a breeding ground for culture, music and dance. But the Flamenco wasn't born until the Gypsies came to Andalucia in the 13th century.

The Gypsy melodies and rhythms met the music and dances of India, Byzantine, the Jewish religious songs, the Muslim music and the Andalucian traditional culture. The result was the early Flamenco.

Instructor is Maria Pröckl-Steen – A Flamenco dancer graduated from the Academy of Dance and trained at various institutions in Madrid and Sevilla.

The course is four hours a day.
