BRINA & STRING.SI (Slovenia)

Brina Vogelnik-Saje comes from a well-known artistic family in Ljubljana, where her mother taught her Slovene traditional songs when she was a little girl. In 2002 she joined up with the group String.si to record the CD Graščakinja (Lady of the Manor).

The story of String.si dates back to 1995 and the ending »si« in their name has a double meaning: first, in the Slovene language this ending signifies the plural (several strings), while »si« is also the international abbreviation code for Slovenia on the Internet.
From the very beginning
String.si aimed to broaden the range of sound typical of a string quartet. There is a considerable difference between the classical, melodic way of performing on string instruments and that of String.si. Their rhythmical way of playing is typical of contemporary improvised music and of post-acoustic jazz and ethno music.
