Oriental Dance for Beginners

Carita Lindqvist lost her heart to Oriental rhythms in the Fall of 1990 when she participated in an Arabic dance class for beginners. Since then she has trained under many Swedish and international dance teachers including the Eygptians Yousry Sharif, Raqia Hassan and Aida Noor.

In 1994 Carita began dancing with Suzanne Petrén Abou Shebika och Mohamed Abou Shebika, teachers of the beautiful and lithe Egyptian dance style. She was a member of their dance troupe Nefertari for six years and for the last six terms she has instructed their beginner’s class at the Egyptian Cultural Center. Under their direction she has also traveled to Egypt a number of times for further study.

This beginners class focuses on technique practice, step combinations and easy choreography. Students will be introduced to Egyptian folklore and graceful solo dancing. The class will begin with a light warm up and will end with guided stretching.
