Fiddle Playing for Children and Youth

This course is traditionally one of our most popular and fills very fast. It consists of tune learning (by ear) and technique exercises. In addition we will work with part harmony and accompaniment. Dancing and singing are also included.

The course is open to children and teenagers between 7-17. Young students should have playing experience of at least two terms and be used to learning by ear. The older youth are required to have at least four years of playing.
Please include a short biographical letter with your registration and tell us your age, how long you have been playing, what method you have been using, the name of your teacher, your last played song or piece and whether or not you have participated in our Fiddle Playing for Children and Youth course in previous years. Please inform us in your letter if you have friends that will participate in the course and/or other special circumstances that we should consider when we form the groups.

Instructors are Pelle Gustavsson and Hanna Tibell, skillful folk musicians both with many years of experience teaching children.

The course is 2-3 hours/day, Sunday-Friday. Participants will be divided into morning and afternoon groups. Older experienced folk musicians will visit the classes and the groups will also collaborate with some of the other exciting courses at the festival.
