Courses
2002
FFF presents a course for string instruments– guitar, lute, mandora, bouzouki, mandola, mandolin, etc. – with Hållbus Totte Mattsson as instructor. As a starting point he uses the multitude of exciting styles that grew from the modern Swedish folk music tradition. You’ll become part of a "folk string orchestra" and you and your instrument will get the chance to try to work with melody, bass, accompaniment, bordun and part harmonies in songs from the Nordic folk music tradition. We’ll listen to and practice the new and different styles of folk guitar playing that started taking shape in the 1980s. In addition, the class will be visited by a number of guest musicians. The course is directed to musicians who already play string instruments in a folk music context and perhaps long for new tips and ideas for advancement or a new direction. The course is also directed to players trained in classical note reading who want to learn to play by ear in freer ensemble settings. Hållbus Totte Mattsson has been an innovative and influential player for the last 20 years. He was a part of the Nordic Folk revival and a member of Groupa and Gubbatrion. Today he can be heard in both Hedningarna and Boot playing a wide variety of instruments. He is an experienced teacher and in his classes he uses learning by ear.
