RUNRIG
The original Runrig performed for the first time in 1973. Since then the
group has followed a long and successful road and Runrig has grown into
a popular and successful band that does not back away from
continued development and change.
They have had several top-listings, performed with artists such as Rod
Stewart, Rolling Stones and U2 and have toured a lot out of the UK, in
the last years also building a solid following in Denmark, Germany and
other countries on the Continent.
Although by no means a traditional folk band, Runrig’s songs reflects
the Gaelic tradition and throughout the years they have been part in the
evolving fightback for the Gaelic language. Their breakthrough in 1987
put the spotlights on the Gaelic traditions and Runrig shows that you do
not need to understand the words to get a meaning of their songs
The successful concept in Runrig’s music is the gentle and curious
blend of tradition and development of the Gaelic culture in modern
society.
