Shetland fiddle

On a journey through the world of folk music sooner or later you end up in Shetland, the island in the middle of the North Sea. The island is situated as far from Scandinavia as Scotland. On you visit to the island you will find traditional fiddle players of highest standard – their skills with the fiddle are legendary. This year you have the opportunity to try Shetland fiddle music with the instructor Catriona Macdonald!

Catriona is one of the Shetlands grand fiddle players. She started to play in early years, the legendary musician Tom Anderson has been of great importance for her development as a fiddler and musician. Catriona's skills, and her personal charisma, have contributed to her great success on music stages all around the world. This year we will get the opportunity to see her at the festival performing both with Blazin´Fiddles and with her own Catriona Macdonald Band.Catriona is also an experienced pedagogue.This course is intended for those who play fiddle well, but you don’t need any prior knowledge in the Shetland music. We learn by ear.
