Piano accordion

This course is intended for all piano accordion players of intermediate levels and above. We are proud to be able to introduce Karen Tweed as instructor for this course. Karen will be looking at tunes from her Irish, Scottish and English repertoire. The focus for the course will be on bass, bellows and right hand techniques, specifically different bass work approaches and ornamentation on the right hand. The lessons will be taught using both musical notation and by ear. It is advised that participators bring a tape recorder or minidisc player to the course.

Karen has taught widely in the UK, two years as the Folkworks Summer School Director of the Adult Course. She is co-organizing an Advanced Accordion Summer School in the UK in August 2001and is one of the core tutors on the Newcastle Folk Music Degree course which is being launched in September. She has also taught in Sweden at Hovra, in Finland at the Sibelius Academy and at the World Music Centre in Limerick, Ireland. Karen is widely respected for her work with SWÅP, the Two Duos Quartet and The Poozies and has recently released a solo CD – May Mondy with Timo Alakotila.
