The name of the band (as well as the spelling) came naturally, look up the word "swap" in a dictionary; it means exchange; to swap something in exchange for something that you need; to give in order to gain… Swåp is all about the trading of songs and ideas between Swedish folk music and English-Irish traditional music. In the band are two of the greatest figures in the younger generation of British folk musicians. Karen Tweed has made quite an impression on many Swedes with her dexterous and elegant accordion style in the Kathryn Tickell Band. Ian Carr is an extraordinarily talented guitarist that you never quite know what he will do next. Swåp is well known in Falun Folk music Festival circles. And this is even more true when it comes to the Swedish half of the group: Ola Bäckström and Carina Normansson, two fiddle players, both with a very characteristic sound, and they have a very personal touch when it comes to playing traditional songs – and they match each other perfectly. You can hear them play in many constellations innovating Swedish folk music. They have played with many groups and they are always up to something new. Ian Carr’s impulsive and pulsating guitar chords and Karen Tweed’s playful caressing accordion, support their fiddles. When a "springlek" meets a reel you can hear and feel them both – creating something totally new. A Swedish heart pumping to an English-Irish beat. Or the other way around. This is what Swåp is all about – swapping! | Saturday The Dance Hall 18.00 |
