Stockholm Soneros lovingly carry the music tradition that evolved on the Cuban countryside in the beginning of the 20th century. The son-music was the music of the slaves and the poor farmers – it was also their only comfort. The roots came from Africa, France and Spain. Today, son-music is being "reborn" through Buena Vista Social Club’s million selling albums. The truth is that this celebration to the small things in life has never really died – it has merely been resting in the shadows. And the Cubans are famous for taking things slowly… Stockholm Soneros play the music the way it was supposed to be played, on traditional acoustic instruments and with a particularly moody elegance – just like in the bars at Santiago de Cuba. It’s completely normal to feel the urge to dance, to hug someone, when you hear this music. Give in to the urge! | Wednesday Grand 00.30 |
