Rory Campbell & Malcolm Stitt - Scotland

Rory Campbell and Malcolm Stitt are investigating just how beautiful it can sound when a solitary whistle or bagpipes meets the richness of a chord from a guitar or a bouzouki. The result of nearly ten years of hard research now stands clear: there are no limits to how beautiful and exciting it can sound. They have also reached the conclusion that using a synthesizer couldn’t possibly be breaking any laws in the Scottish tradition. They feel that the tones that come flowing down from the Highlands become even clearer when they meet with the sounds of the city.

Campbell and Stitt are both engaged in many of the main Scottish folk music groups. Rory Campbell plays his bagpipes in both Deaf Shepherd and Old Blind Dogs (Both groups are playing at the Falun Folk music Festival this year). He has also toured the whole of Europe with Caledon. Malcolm Stitt, who plays the guitar and the bouzouki, has played at the festival before. He did it last year with the Boys of the Lough – on guitar and ironing board.
