Artists 2001
ISometimes, repetition can be a thing of joy. Like when Ola Bäckström and Per Gudmundson play at this year’s festival just like they did to a sold-out audience last year. This is what we wrote in last year’s catalogue: "Ola and Per have been playing together since the middle of the 70’s. They play even more nowadays than they did before, something that pleases everybody. They are both considered to be among the absolute best of our fiddlers. Per, born 1955, started to play the fiddle when he was seven. His teachers and inspirers have been fiddlers from Rättvik like Paul Bäckström, Anders Blank, Perols Gudmund Olsson and Dyrsmeds Olle Olsson (Pål Olle). Per became a national fiddler when he was 18. The fiddle is his main instrument, but he is mainly associated with the Swedish bagpipes’ revival. He has been playing with the successful Frifot since ’87. Ola, born 1959, grew up in Ore parish and fell for the folk music wave in the beginning of the 70’s. He has played with many people and he doesn’t have any particular teacher. Ola has created his own sound that bears much resemblance with the music from Ore, Rättvik, Bingsjö – practically everywhere. This has made him a much wanted playing partner – especially at recording sessions, where his stable tones lifts the music and gives it colour. He is, together with Carina Normansson, one half of the Swedish-English double duo Swåp. And he plays with Triptyk. Ola and Per are two fiddlers standing firmly on the same floor, in unison and secure, playing in a powerful and poetic way." What more can we add? Well, they release a new album this summer and this year’s concert is an another opportunity for those who missed out last year. | Friday Dalecarlia Museum 22.00 |
