Lisa Rydberg & Gunnar Idenstam

Lisa Rydberg was born in Stockholm and began taking classical violin lessons when she was only five years old. At the same time, her mother brought her to all the big fiddle rallies and she got to know both the fiddlers and their music. In 1996 she was given the Päkkos Gustaf Award of Honour. She likes to, just like Gunnar does, mix classical music with folk music and other styles.

Gunnar Idenstam was born in Kiruna in 1961 and he went to music school in Stockholm and Paris. In 1984 he won the prestigious Grand Prix de Chartes – a competition in improvising – and he has been doing concerts in most of the world since then. His favourite composer is Bach, but he really likes to play Swedish folk music too.

When they play together they play traditional wedding music from Dalarna and Hälsingland from a forthcoming album produced by Lisa Rydberg: traditional bride’s marches, polskas, waltzes, and walking songs. The concert programme is a beautiful marriage between a violin and an organ.
