Artists 2001 The World Music Tent with Jonas Knutsson and Ale Möller
This year’s show will not be "re-run" of last year’s show but will take things even further. This time it’s about Jonas Knutsson and Ale Möller experimenting with every genre and style available on the festival together with the band put together especially for the festival. Each night they will invite new guests from the broad spectrum of music on the festival. And there is no telling who will turn up. For the curious there’s the possibility to take a peek at the rehearsals in the early afternoons. Jonas Knutsson and Ale Möller specialize in making the most diverse musicians come together and have a good time. The two are the founding members of the Stockholm Folk Big Band, in which there are 17 musicians from all over the world. Jonas Knutsson, a jazz musician in the spirit of Charlie Parker, is considered to be one of the greatest saxophone players in the Nordic countries. He has played with such giants as Herbie Hancock and Clark Terry and he has frequently toured Europe, India, Singapore, China, Russia and the US. He is also working with Swedish folk musicians such as Johan Hedin, who plays the keyed fiddle, and violin player Ola Bäckström. On his first critically acclaimed solo album, Malgomaj, you can hear the Nordic influences clearly. A few of years ago he was given the Swedish National Jazz Federation award – "Jazzkannan". Ale Möller is the man from Scania in the south of Sweden who found his musical roots in Swedish folk music after first falling in love with the music from Greece. On that journey he became a master of the bouzouki and a multi-instrumentalist with a lot of different flutes in his belt. He has played with Filarfolket, Enteli and Nordan to name but a few. Now you can hear him in Frifot, but foremost he is just Ale, the multi-musician and performer who is a master at making people join him in his joyful experiments. This year their supporting band consists of: Sebastian Dubé (bass), Rafael Sida (African and Afro-American percussion), Mats Öberg (keyboards), Dyar Jalal (oriental percussion, vocals), Johan Hedin (keyed harp), Kurash Soltan (stringed instruments), Mamadou Sene (vocals, musical somersaults and riki – a stringed instrument from Senegal), Maria Stellas (vocals) and Shipra Nandy (vocals and organ harmonium). The two rap artists Vincent Pontare and Robert Westin are also part of supporting ensemble. | Wednesday,
