Calvin Vollrath - Canada

It is virtually impossible not to be mesmerised by Calvin Vollrath’s love for the fiddle and his fiery enthusiasm on stage. He goes through jigs and reel with lust and energy. He is not only a master of the fiddle, he is also a great entertainer who catches his audience’s attention immediately wherever he performs. Calvin Vollrath is an ambassador for Canadian music and for the Cape Breton tradition, which is a branch on the Scottish folk music tree that once landed on the East Coast with the poor Scottish immigrants.

Calvin’s sound is broader, more swinging – after all, this is North America which is no place for minimalism.

He got his first fiddle when he was eight years old. When he was 17 he was in the champion class in the national competitions in Canada. He has written over 250 songs and he has recorded around 30 albums, won lots of awards, he was once dubbed the Grand North American Old Tyme Fiddle Champion.
